Brenda Tharp (CA) is a professional photographer, speaker and educator with a life-long wanderlust for exploring and photographing. Brenda began her career in photography in 1985, working in the corporate and editorial photography markets. Her photographs have appeared on the pages of Sierra Club, Audubon, National Geographic Books, Michelin Travel Guides, Nature Conservancy, Traveler, and many more. In addition to being widely published, Brenda has received high commendations for her work in Wildlife Photographer of the Year (UK’s Natural History Museum) and has regularly been accepted into the top entries for NANPA (North American Nature Photography Association) Expressions Magazine Photo Competition. Her photographic prints are in private collections across the country and she continues to exhibit at environmental centers and galleries.
Brenda is the author/photographer of two books, her most recent Expressive Nature Photography (Monacelli Press), and she co-authored Extraordinary Everyday Photography (Penguin-Random House) with Jed Manwaring.
Brenda has spoken to thousands of people across the country at photography conferences and camera clubs, along with organizations such as Mountaineers, Sierra Club and Garden Club of America. She has taught through Maine Media Workshops, Santa Fe Workshops, Pacific Northwest School of Arts, and also conducts her own photography tours and workshops across the USA and internationally. Brenda was a judge for the USA Landscape Photographer of the Year competition hosted by English photographer Charlie Waite for 3 years.
